Welcome to "Knowledge Disney World"

Welcome to the University of Notre Dame, where there are as many opportunities for learning and growth as there are rides at Disney World. Whatever your curiosity and passions, there's something here for everyone, and much like the famed theme park experience, your time here will go by in the blink of an eye. Let me help you make the most out of your time as a Domer, first by providing you with a comprehensive map of resources and opportunities available outside the classroom to customize your experience. Next, we'll collect your fast pass and help you skip the lines as we discuss strategies for cutting through organizational bureaucracy to access these resources and opportunities more expediently. I'll share my personal Notre Dame experience and highlight the resources and partners that enabled me to follow my passion and co-found my first start-up, South Bend Code School. These partnerships included the IDEA Center, Notre Dame's fundamental resource for all commercialization and entrepreneurial activities, and the Robinson Community Learning Center, which offers various educational programs for South Bend residents of all ages.

Along the way, we'll strategize how to overcome potential roadblocks, such as conquering imposter syndrome and self-doubt, as we work together towards building your dream Notre Dame experience, one which embraces the University's commitment to community engagement and social impact while also finding like-minded people solving problems for good. Let's discover the magic of Notre Dame together.

About the Lecturer

Chris Frederick is an assistant teaching professor of Data Science in the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame, where he teaches courses in statistical programming and business analytics. His main areas of focus include computer science, data engineering, data warehousing, data visualization, data governance, and entrepreneurship.

Immediately prior to becoming part of the College of Science, he was the Manager of the Business Intelligence Team for the Office of Information Technology and the Director for the Data-Driven Decision-Making program at the University of Notre Dame. In these roles, he oversaw the creation and development of an Enterprise Data Warehouse, Knowledge Graph, and Data Governance Program.

While at Notre Dame, Chris also co-founded three midwest based tech companies: the South Bend Code School, GiveGrove, and South Bend Code Works.

The South Bend Code School combats the technology skills gap at the earliest level by reforming technology education and making computer science accessible to students from all walks of life. Since its inception in 2015, the South Bend Code School has brought technology skills to over 1,000 students ages seven to 18 in five locations: South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Bloomington, and Port Huron, Michigan.
