Prior to joining the First Year Advising team, Dr. Mahon has been a Visiting Instructor in the Department of Theology as well as serving as the Burke, Hofman, Kolman Postdoctoral Scholar in what was the College of the First Year of Studies.

Dr. Mahon received her B.A. in History from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN, and a Master of Theological Studies degree from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. She earned her Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 2016 with a concentration in Liturgical Studies. While pursuing her doctorate, she was awarded an Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from Notre Dame’s Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning for her "Foundations of Theology" class. Her first book, Teach Us To Pray: The Lord’s Prayer, Catechesis, and Ritual Reform in the Sixteenth Century, was published in 2019.

Dr. Mahon specializes in advising theory and practice, the intersection between teaching pedagogy and academic advising, integrative advising approaches that encourage student resilience, and helping first generation students transition into Notre Dame.
