How to choose a section of MOR 10101

Moreau Neighborhoods

MOR 10101, also known as the Moreau First-Year Seminar course, consists of over one hundred sections of approximately 19 students each. All sections share an identical syllabus but meet at various times throughout the week. MOR 10101 takes place in the fall semester of the first year, and students will complete the second course in the Moreau Program in their senior year.

The Moreau First-Year Seminar seeks to facilitate the opportunity to integrate your intellectual and residential experiences through our course registration procedures. All first-year students are required to register for a Moreau FYS section that corresponds to their residential housing assignment. We call the result of this process the “Moreau neighborhoods.”

There are five "Moreau neighborhoods," each corresponding to a particular cluster of residence halls on campus. These are East Quad, God Quad, North Quad, South Quad, and West Quad.

This registration procedure ensures that your Moreau seminar will include classmates from your own residential community and residential communities nearby. This intentional blend of your intellectual and residential engagement seeks to help you enjoy a sense of familiarity with your classmates, more easily integrate curricular and co-curricular learning, and better engage with the study and practice of living well.

How to Register for MOR 10101 (Moreau)

Follow the directions below to identify which MOR 10101 sections are available to you for registration. When it comes time to register, register for a MOR 10101 section (MOR 10101-XX) that is listed under your residential community.

Special Note: In NOVO, all students are pre-registered for an MOR 10000-XX section. MOR 10000 is not a course, and it is different than FYS 10101. Rather, it is NOVO terminology for your pre-assigned “MOR Moreau Neighborhood.” For example, MOR 10000-01 is "Neighborhood #1 Co-requisite for Moreau." In "Section Notes," you can see that Neighborhood #1 is for North Quad residence halls.

Find your neighborhood

In July, you will receive notice of your housing assignment and your new residence hall community from the Office of Residential Life. In July, you will be able to click below to view your pre-assigned Moreau Neighborhood (MOR 10000-XX) and the MOR 10101 sections (MOR 10101-XX) available to you for registration.

You'll Likely Receive an Error Message in PATH

Did you get a "Corequisite MOR 10000 required" error message in PATH? PATH doesn't recognize courses in which you've already been registered (in this case, MOR 10000). You will receive this error message regardless of which section of MOR 10101 you add to your PATH plan. Ignore this message for MOR 10101.

Class Duration Times

MOR 10101 sections meet for 75 minutes once a week for 11 total class sessions.

Troubleshooting

Did you get a “Corequisite Not Met” error message in NOVO regarding your Moreau section? You’ve likely attempted to register for a Moreau FYS section (MOR 10101-XX) that does not correspond with your pre-assigned Moreau Neighborhood (MOR 10000-XX). Check the "Fall 2026 Moreau Neighborhoods" list and select a section within your residential community.
Does it look like your Moreau Neighborhood (MOR 10000) is full? You don’t need to worry about “available seats” in any MOR 10000 Neighborhood. PATH doesn't recognize courses in which you've already been registered (in this case, MOR 10000). When choosing a Moreau FYS section, consider only the “available seats” within MOR 10101 sections.
What if I want to register for a Moreau FYS section that is already full? Seats in each MOR 10101 section will be added periodically throughout first-year registration days. Be sure to register for a section upon your registration time ticket. Then, throughout the registration period, return to see if new seats have been added to allow for more room in any other MOR 10101 of your interest.
Having trouble finding a Moreau section that works for your schedule? If it is impossible for you to find a MOR 10101 section within your Moreau Neighborhood (MOR 10000) that works with your schedule, contact your academic advisor.
